After
looking over the footage I gathered on the 29th October I have come
to the conclusion that the camera I used is not good enough for a number of
reasons. One reason being that when I zoom in on the phone (using an over the
shoulder shot) the image does not focus meaning the text message content cannot
be seen by the audience. This is a problem as the text message is important as
it shows the audience that Jimmy and Arthur are both bully victims and the
characters have built a strong friendship.
To
resolve this problem I have gathered all the cameras that are available to me
and investigated which camera would be the best one for me to use. I did this
by setting up my phone and camera at a similar angle it would be at when
filming the over the shoulder shot. When they were both set up I zoomed in on
the text message then zoomed out.
Initial camera – Fujifilm Finepix Z
My
results were as follows:
Camera 1 – Fujifilm Finepix JX
When
I zoomed in and took a picture of the text message it was extremely clear and
the text is very easy to read and easy on the eye.
In
contrast when I zoomed in on motion picture it was very jump and did not zoom
very smoothly at all. This had led me to believe that this camera is not
suitable to use when filming footage for my opening title sequence.
Camera 2 – Panasonic Lumix
The
results from this camera, when taking a picture zoomed in, are very similar to
the results of camera 1. It is very clear and the text message is easy to read.
When
filming the image was very blurry meaning the text message writing was not
clear. This has led me to decide that this camera is not suitable to use when
filming my opening title sequence.

My
next step is to ask around family members and friends to see whether they have
a good/ suitable camera that I can lend for the duration of filming the footage
I need for my opening title sequence.
If
I am unsuccessful in finding a camera then I will have to consider changing the
idea of using motion picture to using still images.
Another
piece of equipment I need to change is my tripod. Luckily my school allowed my
and fellow classmates to borrow tripod’s however when I came to setting up the
tripod I noticed it had a piece missing.
I
attempted to solve this problem by using blu-tak and paper so that I could
attach my camera onto it. Through the duration of filming on the 29th
October it was clear this idea was not working. Firstly the footage was not straight
and also when I was filming the over shoulder shot my camera continuously fell
off which unfortunately led to the camera breaking.
To
resolve this problem I will either ask my teacher for the missing piece or a
new tripod.
