New Idea

Over the last few days I have been thinking about how I can make my opening title sequence better. I have decided to include short clips of each character completing tasks that symbolise the type of character they are.

Arthur (the geek) will be sat reading one of his revision books. He then gathers all of his books together and begins to walk towards the camera where he will then stop and sort out his glasses and tie. This is because the majority of my target audience said they associate revision, books, glasses and a smart uniform with a geeky character.

Jerome (the thug) will be slouched against the school gates with one leg rested up against a bar. He will be holding a cigarette in which he blows smoke to the camera then looks at the camera with a smug look on his face. This is because my target audience stated they associate smoking, alcohol and a selfish personality with a thuggish character.

Sadie (the pregnant teenager) will be seen looking down at her stomach whilst holding/ rubbing it and also smiling to herself. She will then look up to the camera smile then wink. This wink will symbolise the secrecy of the pregnancy. My target audience said they associate happiness, secrecy and holding their belly with a pregnant teenager.

Burdine (the snob) will be seen twirling and laughing to herself but as soon as she notices the camera she will stop and stand slightly away from the camera, smiling and playing with her hair. This is because my target audience said they associate flirtatious behaviour, designer items and happiness with a snobby character.

Maggie (Jimmy’s mother) will be seen tying her apron then she begins to brush the floor. Maggie then stops brushing to look at the camera. She then attempts to smile but the audiences will be able to see that she is not happy and is more afraid.

Blake (Jimmy’s stepfather) will be seen brushing off his shoulders as if to say he is better than anyone else and nobody can affect him. He then looks at the camera, pushes up his chest and fold his arms. This will show the audience he is prosperous and superior.

Jimmy (the main character/ gypsy boy) will be seen simply being himself. He will be wiping dirt off his uniform and trying to make himself look acceptable, to the audience this will symbolise Jimmy is trying to turn his life around since moving to Manchester and starting at Wellington School. However, it will be clear to that Jimmy still has a little bit of the gypsy culture within him. This will be shown by his throwing little punches.

The order of this will be:

1) Jimmy
2) Maggie
3) Blake
4) Jerome/ Burdine
5) Arthur
6) Sadie
