Jimmy:
Jimmy
is an astonishing boy who appreciates everything he is given in life. He works
hard to make friends and support his loving but senseless mother the best he
can. His relationship with his mother and father was unbreakable until the day
came where he had to say goodbye to his bestfriend, hero and father. Since this
day he has craved his mother’s attention and love but he knows that by sticking
around nothing will change and he will be left more emotionally hurt than he
ever was.
Blake:
Simply,
Blake is a traditional Romany gypsy man. Throughout his childhood he was taught
the fight for survival way of life and told everything earned never comes
easily or cheap. Blake finds it hard to see where the transition from childhood
to adulthood began. His father would start fights with grown men then call
Blake over to jump in and help. The guidance he received from his family was
never the guidance a child should receive. This may explain his strong, authoritative
and aggressive personality.
Maggie:
Maggie
is a character who tries her best to please everyone, even if it means not
pleasing herself. She adores her son Jimmy but she knows deep down he has got
more potential in life than she ever had, and this may be the reason she let
her son walk away from her so easily. When Maggie was younger she had a fight
for life, she was the 20th Century Marilyn of Ireland who would have
men worshipping the ground she walked on. However, her fight and care for
herself vanished when the love of her life was beaten to death in a bare
knuckle fight. Since this day Maggie has struggled to see a reason for living
and never been able to show Jimmy the affection and support she knows he needs.
Jerome:
Throughout
his years in education he has always been superior to other pupils, imposes
attention he gains and takes advantage of anyone who attempts to be nice to
him. Although he is greatly feared by the majority of pupils Jerome has many
personal problems at home which may be why he takes his fury and sadness out on
other innocent pupils.
Sadie:
Sadie
had her head screwed on and knew what she wanted to gain from life. She worked extremely
hard in school and was liked by many but this all changed when she found out
she was pregnant. Luckily for her no one yet knows but she now faces an agonising
decision with no guidance. Since she found out her personality has dramatically
changed from being an extreme extrovert to a severe introvert.
Arthur:
This
intellectual teenager knows what he wants from life and the direction he is
going to take to reach his main goal. He keeps his mine focused on his
schooling, friends and family. However, school life isn’t exactly the easiest
for him. He is a popular candidate for bullying. All day, every day he victimised
by Jerome and other pupils by threats, name calling and the worst, repeated
bruising.
Burdine:
Burdine
is a seemingly spoiled teenager who refuses to acknowledge any kind of
authority. She makes a number of enemy’s everyday with her childish ways and atrocious
attitude. However, it becomes clear that Burdine has a lot more to her than
just her personality. Since the day her younger sister was diagnosed with a
life threatening illness Burdine has struggled to cope with home and school
life. Although she seems to be overly popular she still feels sadness,
isolation and heartbreak.
