Filming Update

Wednesday 29th October

Today I filmed the scene where the audiences first gain an understanding of Jimmy and Arthur’s friendship. The location of this scene is outside Wellington School so I agreed with both actors to meet at the front gates of the school at 12:30. I filmed a lot of footage between the time of 12:45 – 14:00 and the majority of these were over shoulder shots of Khabeer and Oliver sending text messages. My aim was to film Oliver and Khabeer typing the text message with the use of an over the shoulder shot, in this shot I made sure the actors side of their face so that the audience could distinguish the characters are different/ texting each other. I would then zoom in on the phone to show the text message. The text is very important as from what the text messages says the audience will be able to understand that the characters are friends and are both bully victims. This was made difficult as the camera I used (Fujifilm Finepix Z) continuously went out of focus making the image blurry and resulting in not being able to read what the text message says. This problem was created due to the characters hands shaking whilst typing the text message which to be fair is a natural occurrence. Although this was highly stressful after many attempts at filming this shot I finally managed to get a decent and clear film of the text message.

Footage showing the camera not focusing:

Another main problem of today was that the pavement was very uneven due to rocks and erosion this made the camera uneven resulting in the filming being slightly slanted. To resolve this problem I folded up paper I had spare and sellotaped it to the tripod leg which was making the footage slant.
