After
much thought I have decided to no longer use motion
picture in my opening title sequence as much as I initially thought I would, instead
I will use still images. When deciding to change my idea I had to consider the
equipment problems, more specifically the poor quality of the cameras available
to me when zooming.
My
new idea will predominately be still images. I will do this by asking my
characters to act out each scene in the exact same way as we originally
discussed, these actions can be seen in my shooting schedules. Whilst the
characters are acting their scene out I will continuously take pictures and
decide which ones I want to use in my opening title sequence later. Each scene
will be acted out various times to ensure I get a range of pictures for each
scene this will mean I have more choice when deciding on the final images to
use and edit.
When
I have chosen the images I want to use in my opening title sequence I will
begin editing the images together to make ensure it has continuity editing. I will
do this by using a computer programme called Final Cut Pro X which offers a
range of editing techniques.
Although
I have decided to use still images I still want to keep my most recent idea
change, previously stated in another blog post. This idea was to film short
clips of each character completing tasks that symbolise the type of character they
are, I believe this will be a good idea and make the opening title sequence
much more effective and enjoyable to watch.
Below is a brief description of
the images I want from each scene, it also includes a diagram of where I will
be taking each picture from:
Jimmy visiting father’s grave: long shot of Jimmy
knelt at grave, mid shot of Jimmy placing flowers at grave. Close up of “IN
MEMORY OF A LOVING DAD” text on the gravestone
Jimmy and mother: mid shot of Jimmy and
mother together, close up of Jimmy’s face (tear rolling down face), close up of
tear dropping on the floor
Moving to Manchester: low angle shot of the Town Hall
and the Big Wheel in Manchester town centre
An example of a low angle shot – the clock will be the landmark
Mother and Blake’s relationship: (it
is clear to Jimmy that this relationship is violent from an early stage)
long shot of Maggie and Blake arguing through the window. This shot will
include Jimmy in the right hand corner looking in at them arguing
Blake and Jimmy’s relationship: mid shot of Blake
raising a fist to Jimmy. In this picture the room will be pitch black and a
torch will be shone on Jimmy curled up in the corner of the room, the character
of Blake will raise a fist but this will be a shadow against a wall rather than
seeing Blake in the shot too.
Jimmy leaving: establishing shot of Jimmy walking
across field (this picture will be taken from the back), close up of his feet
walking (I may consider this as being motion picture) (from a side view), point
of view shot from Jimmy looking back across field at mother and Blake.
An example
of feet picture:

of point of view shot:
Diagram
of establishing shot:
New school after leaving his mother and Blake: establishing
shot of the front of school (including the ‘Wellington School’ sign)
Jimmy meeting Jerome: Jerome and Burdine walking
up behind Jimmy, Jerome walking past Jimmy and knocking his folders out of
Jimmy’s hands, Jerome and Burdine carry on walking with smirks on their faces
Jimmy and Arthur’s friendship: over the shoulder
shots of Jimmy sending a text to Arthur, over the shoulder shot of Arthur
replying to Jimmy’ text message, Jimmy and Arthur meeting at the front gate of
their school and walking home together (this picture will be taken from the
back)
An
example of an over the shoulder shot:
Diagram
of the characters walking home:
Jimmy meeting Sadie: a mid shot of Jimmy and
Sadie laughing and talking with each other on a park bench, a long shot of them
hugging, another long shot of them walking away from each other
