Shooting Update

Sunday 9^th November

Originally I was going to shoot this scene on Saturday 8^th November however I decided to do it on Sunday 9^th November due to the location. The location of this scene in Manchester City Centre and usually is busiest on Saturdays therefore I travelled to Manchester, to film this scene, on the following day. I believed it was best to do it on Sunday as it was easier for me to take pictures without showing the any of the public’s faces as I got no informed consent from them to take pictures with their faces included.

My initial idea was to take pictures of the Manchester wheel and the Town Hall. Unfortunately I was unable to collect images of the Town Hall as it has a big Santa statue place in the middle. Due to this I decided to take pictures of the Manchester wheel, Manchester Cathedral, Manchester Arndale and Manchester Piccadilly train station. These locations will show the audience that Jimmy’s new home is in Manchester. 

Problems in the shoot

On problem was the size on the Manchester wheel. After many attempts of trying to fit the full landmark in the picture it became clear that this task was near enough impossible. I moved all around the field in front of the wheel in hope to get a clear and suitable image but I was unfortunate. This led to my decision of taking a low angled long shot of the surroundings with a quarter of the wheel included.

Another problem I faced was the reflection of the light of the Manchester Arndale sign. When I took the picture from the right hand side there was a reflection of light which blocked out some of the lettering. I then decided to take the pictures from the left hand side which worked much better as there was no reflection.

However as you can see from this image there was a lamppost blocking the image so I then decided to take another picture of a different sign, as shown below:

A final problem was with the Manchester Cathedral. When taking the pictures it was unclear that this was placed in Manchester therefore I decided to change the angle I was originally and take a picture with the sign included.

My next steps:

This week (week commencing 10^th November) I hope to begin editing after choosing my final pictures from the scenes I have completed.

Also I will start considering a name for my programme and consider what music I am looking for.
